Alstrom in the dark over potential GE bid

Alstrom in the dark over potential GE bid

US engineering giant General Electric (GE) has entered talks to buy French company Alstrom for roughly $13bn, according to reports from Bloomberg.

Should the deal go ahead it would be the most substantial move made yet by GE chief executive officer Jeffrey Immelt to reverse the massive decline seen in GE's share price.

A deal between the two companies could be reached as early as next week, with GE taking over Alstrom's TGV trains as well as its rail-signal technology, according to people with knowledge of the talks.

However, Alstrom has said it was "not informed of any potential public tender offer for the shares of the company."
