Amazon To Stop Selling Apple TV Devices

Amazon is refusing to sell video-streaming devices from rivals Google (Xetra: A0B7FY - news) and Apple (LSE: 0R2V.L - news) claiming it will help avoid "customer confusion".

Its own streaming video service - Prime Video - is not available on Apple TV or Google's Chromecast because Amazon says they don't "interact well",

Amazon said it will continue to sell other devices that are compatible with Prime Video, plus its own Fire TV device.

That means that Roku's set-top box, Microsoft (NasdaqGS: MSFT - news) 's Xbox and Sony (Hanover: SON1.HA - news) 's PlayStation will not be affected.

Amazon has made a big bet on streaming video, paying for original content as well as buying up content from elsewhere.

In the run-up to Christmas, it appears it is willing to sacrifice sales to bolster Prime.

Amazon has form when it comes to using these tactics.

Last year it blocked pre-orders for some books from publisher Hachette during a dispute over prices.

Many authors protested, accusing Amazon of acting anti-competitively.

Amazon Prime customers pay £79 a year in the UK for access to the streaming service.

Also bundled is express shipping, music streaming, and other features (Other OTC: UBGXF - news) .
