New Android Marshmallow OS set to be launched

LONDON (ShareCast) - (ShareCast News) - Google (Xetra: A0B7FY - news) is expected to launch the latest version of its Android software on Tuesday. The technology giant is holding an event in San Francisco at 5pm BST, where its expected it will launch its 2015 range of smartphones as well as the long-awaited Android Marshmallow.

The Nexus 5X and the Nexus (Xetra: 522090 - news) 6P will be unveiled, and will be the first smartphones to run the new operating system.

Android Police reported that a source familiar with the plans said the final Marshmallow release will be available to users from 5 October.

Canadian carrier Telus inadvertently revealed the date a few days ago on its website, but quickly removed the information.

But not all phones will get the upgrade straight away.

Google's Nexus 5, 6, 7, 9 and Player range will be able to be upgrade soon after launch according to Android Police.

Other phone manufacturers are likely to follow suit by upgrading users' phones, but it's likely to be sometime before it is rolled out as it was with the Android Lollipop upgrade last year.

PC Advisor reported that a new Chromecast device is also expected to be unveiled.
