Apple Announces Tech Launch Amid iPhone Fever

Apple (NasdaqGS: AAPL - news) has announced it will unveil new products on September 9, increasing the excitement that the new iPhone 6 is about to be launched.

The annual event in Apple's hometown of Cupertino, California was confirmed in a mailing to technology journalists.

Experts say this year's meeting will be the most looked forward to since the Apple introduced the iPad in 2010.

The tech giant has not given any hints as to what new releases may be on the agenda and the typically cryptic invitation read "Wish we could say more" on a simple black-and-white background dominated by Apple's familiar corporate logo.

But fans are hopeful a large screen iPhone may be one of the products unveiled and it was also rumoured that a smartwatch could also be on show.

The announcement comes after the rumour mill over the iPhone 6 went into overdrive.

Bloggers and insiders predicted the new device will come with two screen sizes; one measuring 4.7ins and the other 5.5ins.

It is also expected to have a toughened sapphire screen, which is said to be impossible to crack.

Information leaking out of China, where some of the iPhones are assembled, suggests the new product will come with large memory sizes and a camera with more megapixels.

The announcement came as Samsung and LG Electronics unveiled small improvements to their smartwatch ranges.
