Apple Releases Tool To Remove Free U2 Album

Apple (NasdaqGS: AAPL - news) has released a new tool which allows people to remove U2's new album from their iTunes library.

Some iPhone users are unhappy that Songs Of Innocence was automatically added to their collections free of charge.

Twitter (Xetra: A1W6XZ - news) user @EricAmer wrote: "Waking up with the new U2 album on automatically installed on your iTunes is like waking up with a pimple in the morning. #nothanks"

While @AdamJonesMawson said: "#U2iPhone ok so I now have U2's album on my phone that I didn't download it's just appeared this is slightly creepy and invasion of privacy."

U2 played at an Apple event in California last week to showcase its new smartwatch and updated iPhone models.

In a surprise move, the Irish rock band performed at the event and put out its 11-song release.

Apple chief executive Tim Cook announced that the new album would be given to the company's 500 million iTunes users.

The release showed up in users' iTunes music libraries but many users took to social media to complain and ask how to remove it.

While it was already possible to delete the album, Apple's new one-click tool makes it possible in one step.

The firm has set up a support website to guide people through the process of getting the album off their device.

Apple said 33 million iTunes account holders have accessed the album.

Songs Of Innocence will be released on October 14 to the general public.
