BP Whiting crude unit operating normally after restart -sources

HOUSTON, March 2 (Reuters) - The second-largest crude distillation unit (CDU) at BP Plc's 413,500-barrel-per-day Whiting, Indiana, refinery was operating normally on Monday following a restart over the weekend, said sources familiar with plant operations.
The 110,000-bpd CDU completed restarting on Saturday, the sources said, after being shut on Wednesday by a malfunction. Repairs were undertaken to bring the unit back into operation.
The Whiting refinery is one of 12 across the United States where members of the United Steelworkers union went on strike after talks for a new three-year contract broke down.
BP spokesman Scott Dean declined to discuss operations at the refinery on Monday.
The refinery's other two CDUs remained in operation while the 110,000-bpd unit was shut, the sources said. (Reporting by Erwin Seba; Editing by Meredith Mazzilli and Jonathan Oatis)
