BP Whiting refinery completes 90,000 bpd CDU restart - sources

HOUSTON, Jan 26 (Reuters) - BP Plc's 413,500-barrel-per-day (bpd) Whiting, Indiana, refinery has completed the restart of a 90,000-bpd crude distillation unit and is working to boost its production to planned output levels, sources familiar with plant operations said on Monday.

Energy industry intelligence service Genscape reported on Monday that the CDU began restarting on Sunday.

The crude unit, called Pipestill 11C was knocked out of production on Thursday by a malfunction. A 240,000-bpd CDU and a 75,000-bpd CDU remained in production at the Whiting refinery while Pipestill 11C was shut.

A BP spokesman declined to discuss operations at the Whiting refinery on Monday.

Pipestill 11C was also knocked out of production on Jan. 8 by extremely cold weather and was restarted on Jan. 13.

The three crude units do the initial refining of crude oil coming into the refinery and provide feedstock for all other production units. (Reporting by Erwin Seba; Editing by Grant McCool)
