BP Whiting small FCCU now operating normally -sources

(Adds BP no comment)

March 4 (Reuters) - The 65,000 barrel per day (bpd) gasoline-producing fluidic catalytic cracking unit at BP Plc's 413,500 bpd Whiting, Indiana, refinery was operating normally on Wednesday after returning to production overnight, sources familiar with plant operations said.

The 65,000 bpd FCCU malfunctioned on Tuesday night, the sources said.

Energy industry intelligence service Genscape said higher than normal flaring was seen on Wednesday morning from the a flare associated with the FCCU.

The 65,000 bpd FCCU is the smaller of two at the refinery. The 110,000 bpd FCCU remained in operation overnight, the sources said.

A BP spokesman declined on Wednesday to discuss operations at the refinery. (Reporting by Erwin Seba. Editing by Andre Grenon)
