Leap of faith: Daredevils base jump from cliff top metres away from busy carriageway

Adrenaline junkies in Bristol jumped from the Avon Gorge with parachutes, landing just metres away from four lanes of busy traffic.

This heart-stopping video captures three base jumpers hurling themselves 100ft from the top of a gorge - and landing just metres from a four-lane carriageway.

Stunned onlookers watched as the men jumped from the Avon Gorge near the Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol on Thursday.

Their parachutes came within metres of snagging on the rocks before they drifted down onto a patch of grass alongside the busy A4 Portway.

The daredevil base jumpers chose a still, sunny day for the stunt - as a gust of wind could've blown their parachutes into the path of oncoming traffic.

Jon Richards, 38, was climbing the gorge when he stopped to film the thrill seekers leap from the Sea Walls.

He said: 'They were really brazen and went about it very casually, just walking up and jumping off like it was an everyday thing.

'The last one nearly hit his feet on the cliffs on the way down and they all looked insanely close to catching their parachutes.

'And if that wasn't enough, there is a dual carriageway just metres from where they landed.'
