A busy start to the second quarter with corporate deal activity across Europe front & center.
** Weir Group (Frankfurt: 42W.F - news) has made an all-stock proposal for Finland's Metso (Dusseldorf: VLM.DU - news) . Biggest daily jump in Metso stock in more than two decades & trading volume on course to hit highest since at least Feb 2009.
** BHP is weighing a spin-off of some businesses such as aluminum & nickel into a separate company.
** Alstom (Paris: FR0010220475 - news) selling its heat exchange unit to private equity for 730 million ($1.01 billion)
** The SFR saga trots along as Bouygues (Other OTC: BOUYF - news) extends its offer for the Vivendi (TLO: VIV.TI - news) unit and presents a 500 million break-up fee.
