U.S. stock index futures were higher on Thursday, ahead of a European Central Bank policy meeting and a flurry of economic data, including two reports on the U.S. labor market. Dow Jones industrial average futures were up 0.08 percent at 17,086, S&P 500 futures were up 0.19 percent at 2,002.5 and Nasdaq 100 futures were up 0.20 percent at 4,080.

** CIENA CORP, Wednesday close $20.46, -4.69 pct premarket

The network equipment forecast fourth quarter revenue of $570 million-$610 million, below the average analyst estimate of $628.9 million. The company said it expects fourth quarter adjusted gross margin in the high 30s to low 40s percent range.

** MITEK SYSTEMS INC (NasdaqCM: MITK - news) , Wednesday close $2.37, +56.12 pct premarket

The mobile imaging software maker agreed on Wednesday to settle all pending litigation with financial services group USAA over five of its patents relating to image capture on mobile devices. Mitek's lawsuit filed in 2012 also included allegations of misappropriation of trade secrets, breach of contract and fraud. The company said neither party will make any payment or admit liability on any claims.

** GOPRO INC (Xetra: A1XE7G - news) , Wednesday close $56.86, -3.80 pct premarket

J.P. Morgan cut its rating on the stock of the maker of camera makers to "neutral" from "overweight", saying the stock is trading above its price target of $51. The median price target on stock is $46.50. Of nine analysts covering the stock, 2 have "buy" ratings and 7 have "hold" or equivalent ratings. Up to Wednesday's close, the stock had risen 137 percent since its debut on June 26.

** MEMORIAL PRODUCTION PARTNERS LP (NasdaqGS: MEMP - news) , Wednesday close $23.16, -4.58 pct premarket

The oil and gas producer said it would offer 13 million common units; representing 18 percent of outstanding shares as of Wednesday. The company said it plans to use net proceeds from the underwritten public offering to pay down debt.

** MATTRESS FIRM HOLDING CORP, Wednesday close $56.81, +0.77 pct premarket

The company said it would buy privately held bedding retailer The Sleep Train Inc for $425 million, its sixth and largest acquisition announced in the past year, to expand its presence on the West Coast.

** VERIFONE SYSTEMS INC (NYSE: PAY - news) , Wednesday close $34.54, +4.23 pct premarket

The credit card swipe machine maker reported a 14 percent increase in third quarter revenue, helped by higher demand for devices that can accept credit cards embedded with chips.

** NEWLINK GENETICS CORP, Wednesday close $25.97, +4.39 pct premarket

NewLink Genetics said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration allowed the company to start testing an experimental Ebola vaccine in humans.

The move follows a decision to begin initial human testing of a GlaxoSmithKline (Other OTC: GLAXF - news) vaccine this month and an approval to fast track tests of a Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: JNJ - news) vaccine.

** PLUG POWER INC (NasdaqCM: PLUG - news) , Wednesday close $5.24, +2.29 pct premarket

The fuel cell maker appointed Chris Hutter as chief financial officer, effective Nov. 6, replacing Dave Waldek, who was interim CFO since April 2013 Hutter, who has 20 years of experience, joins from energy products and services company PowerSecure International Inc (NYSE: POWR - news) , where he was CFO and executive vice president.

Up to Wednesday's close, the stock had jumped 238 percent this year.

** ARLINGTON ASSET INVESTMENT CORP, Wednesday close $28.39, -4.12 pct premarket

The mortgage investor said it was offering 2.75 million shares of Class A common stock, or 14 percent of total outstanding shares

The company had 19.7 million shares outstanding as of July 31 and said it plans to use proceeds to acquire assets.

** TIBCO SOFTWARE INC (NasdaqGS: TIBX - news) , Wednesday close $21.04, +6.46 pct premarket

The business software maker said it was reviewing its strategic and financial alternatives as part of a process initiated by its board on Aug. 16 to maximize shareholder value. The company has formed a special committee of independent directors to undertake the review.

** MATRIX SERVICE CO, Wednesday close $29.13, -14.18 pct premarket

The engineering and construction services provider's fourth quarter revenue and profit missed analysts' estimates due to a 47 percent rise in costs. Revenue from the company's oil, gas and chemical segment, which provides construction and maintenance services to North American oil producers, fell about 22 percent to $52.1 million. Matrix also forecast full-year earnings below estimates.

** YUM BRANDS INC, Wednesday close $71.48, -2.71 pct premarket

The owner of KFC and Pizza Hut chains estimated same-store sales in China fell about 13 percent in the third quarter and continue to decline, hurt by a food safety scare in late July when a former supplier was said to have used expired meat.

** PVH CORP (NYSE: PVH - news) , Wednesday close $117.13, +8.44 pct premarket

The apparel company's second quarter profit beat expectations, helped by strong sales of its Tommy Hilfiger-branded clothes. PVH cut its full-year revenue forecast to $8.4 billion from $8.5 billion, but it reaffirmed its profit forecast.

** JOY GLOBAL INC (NYSE: JOY - news) , Wednesday close $62.2, -0.96 pct premarket

The mining equipment maker posted lower-than-expected quarterly revenue and profit and the company narrowed its full-year earnings forecast range as coal miners cut spending due to weak coal prices amid an oversupply.

** JPMORGAN CHASE & CO (Xetra: 850628 - news) , Wednesday close $59.7, -0.13 pct premarket

Investigators working on the cyber attack at JPMorgan have found clues that a global network of computers available for hire was used to send the stolen data to a Russian city, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the ongoing probe at the bank.

** GOLDMAN SACHS GROUP INC, Wednesday close $179.6, +0.38 pct premarket

Goldman Sachs (NYSE: GS-PB - news) will be the bank in charge of overseeing early share trading in China's Alibaba Group Holding Ltd's initial public offering, according to a source.

** NEWMONT MINING CORP, Wednesday close $26.31, -0.38 pct premarket

Indonesia's second largest copper producer has signed a deal with the Indonesian government that will allow for the resumption of copper concentrate exports next week, the head of the firm's local unit said on Thursday, ending an eight-month tax dispute.

** EXPEDIA INC (NasdaqGS: EXPE - news) , Wednesday close $88.4

The online travel giant's takeover of Australian rival Wotif.com Holdings Ltd hit a snag on Thursday when a regulator raised concerns about competition and deferred its ruling on whether to approve the deal.

Scientists will fast-track tests on another Ebola vaccine, this time from Johnson & Johnson, in another sign that the world's worst outbreak of the virus is mobilising research into the deadly disease.

ExxonMobil is to pump more money into European refining, with the upgrade of a unit at its Slagen refinery in Norway, bucking an industry trend which has seen some plants in the region closing, and others on death watch.
