The Dow Jones industrial average was up 0.66 percent at 17,958.29, the S&P 500 was up 0.59 percent at 2,097.86 and the Nasdaq Composite was up 0.76 percent at 4,978.735.

The business networking website operator slashed its full-year profit forecast, citing slower revenue growth at its hiring business and a delay in recognizing the contribution of lynda.com, the online education company it has agreed to buy.

** INTEL CORP, $32.725, +0.54 pct

** ALTERA CORP (NasdaqGS: ALTR - news) , $45.06, +8.11 pct

Intel (Swiss: INTC.SW - news) signed a standstill agreement earlier this year with Altera that expires on June 1, giving the world's largest chipmaker the option to launch a hostile bid after that, according to sources familiar with the matter.

** ENERNOC INC (NasdaqGS: ENOC - news) , $13.67, +23.71 pct

The carmaker on Thursday unveiled Tesla Energy - storage systems or batteries for homes, companies and utilities that will expand its business beyond electric vehicles and tap into a fast-growing area of the energy industry.

Tesla will partner with EnerNOC on Tesla Energy, storage systems or batteries for homes, companies and utilities.

** GILEAD SCIENCES INC (NasdaqGS: GILD - news) , $103.8101, +3.28 pct

The drugmaker said on Thursday that its quarterly profit nearly doubled, driven by strong sales of its hepatitis C drugs, as it topped Wall Street estimates.

** LLOYDS BANKING GROUP, $5.09, +6.71 pct

Britain's biggest retail bank is confident next week's British national election will not derail healthy UK economic growth, it said on Friday after posting first-quarter profit up by a fifth thanks to sharply lower losses on bad loans and wider margins.

The oil and natural gas producer posted a 43 percent drop in quarterly profit on Friday due to low oil prices .

The U.S. cable company reported a bigger quarterly loss, hurt by costs associated with a failed deal between Comcast Corp and Time Warner Cable Inc (Xetra: T3W1.DE - news) that involved selling assets to Charter.
