Cloud Service Providers First to Make OpenStack Database as a Service Available

Tesora's OpenStack Trove-Based Implementation to Be Offered by U.S. and Canadian Hosting Providers

PARIS, FRANCE--(Marketwired - Nov 3, 2014) - OpenStack Summit -- For the first time, two hosting providers will make available to their customers Tesora's OpenStack Trove-based Enterprise Database as a Service (DBaaS) platform.

Blue Box, an on-demand private cloud hosting provider based in Seattle, and Vexxhost, a hosting provider based in Montreal, will offer customers the Tesora DBaaS Platform Enterprise Edition so that database capacity can be delivered on demand.

The Tesora DBaaS platform enables customer choice with extensive testing for databases including MongoDB, MySQL, Percona Server, MariaDB, Redis, Couchbase, and Cassandra.

"This represents a breakthrough for open source DBaaS and our enterprise platform with adoption by these hosting providers," said Ken Rugg, CEO of Tesora. "We've seen a lot of hard work go into development of Trove to bring this day, which represents the accelerated pace of market adoption and paves the way for further adoption of database as a service using OpenStack Trove."

"We've been pioneers in OpenStack and have seen strong growth from customers who want an agile infrastructure via the private cloud," said Hernan Alvarez, chief product officer, Blue Box. "It was an easy decision for us to take the next step and offer our customers the Tesora implementation of OpenStack DBaaS."

"Our high-performance cloud computing infrastructure is based on OpenStack technology giving customers all the power, resources and flexibility to run their production workloads," said Mohammed Naser, CEO of Vexxhost. "An important part of any production workload, of course, is database technology so Tesora's DBaaS was a natural choice for us as an extension of our services."

Tesora Enterprise Edition comes with full and incremental database backup, plus replication for production applications. Tesora is the leading contributor to the OpenStack Trove open source project.

About Trove and the Tesora Platform
Trove is the database as a service component of OpenStack that lets administrators and DevOps manage multiple instances of different database management systems (DBMS) using a common infrastructure. Trove assures administrative tasks including provisioning, deployment, configuration, tuning, monitoring and administration are achieved in a simple and unified way.
