Couchbase Named in 2013 Red Herring Global 100

Top NoSQL Provider Ranks on International List of Most Promising Private Ventures

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA--(Marketwired - Nov 22, 2013) - Couchbase, a leader in NoSQL database technology and the company behind the Couchbase open source project, announced today that it was named on the 2013 Red Herring Global Top 100.

The Red Herring 100 Awards recognize the top 100 startups from Asia, Europe and the Americas, and are widely viewed as one of the most prestigious recognitions in the industry. Each year, Red Herring sees up to 1,000 startups from each continent competing for recognition.

"It is an honor to be named among our peers as one of Red Herring's top 100 companies," said Couchbase CEO Bob Wiederhold. "The NoSQL market is starting to enter its hyper-growth stage with an increasing shift from relational to NoSQL. The largest enterprises in the world are using Couchbase for their mission critical web and mobile applications. Further, we are entering a new wave where mobile will be the dominant delivery device and NoSQL and JSON will become the new standards."

Red Herring 100 Award nominees are reviewed in a rigorous process that looks at all aspects of each company, from growth rates and venture investments to social contributions and team quality and experience.

The announcement comes just three months after Couchbase announced it raised $25 million in funding and experienced explosive sales growth of more than 400 percent year-over-year in the first half of 2013. In September, Couchbase launched the JSON Anywhere mobile strategy, making it the first vendor to offer a native NoSQL database for mobile devices, and the company expanded its mobile strategy into China in early November.
