Easyjet pilots call off threatened strike

A threatened strike by easyJet pilots over concerns about fatigue has been averted after they accepted new proposals from the airline.

In September, members of pilots' union BALPA had voted overwhelmingly in favour of action.

But following talks a fresh vote saw 68% back a new offer from the Luton-based carrier.

Any strike would have been a first in Britain for the low-cost carrier.

It has already been facing turbulence in the wake of the Brexit vote dragging the pound lower as well as the tough environment for the wider industry after a series of terror attacks in Europe.

Balpa general secretary Brian Strutton said the deal reached with the airline was "a positive outcome for Balpa and easyJet".

He added: "Balpa will now be working closely with easyJet to ensure this agreement delivers real improvements to pilots' lifestyles."

An easyJet spokeswoman said: "Easyjet (Other OTC: EJTTF - news) is pleased to confirm that its pilots have voted in favour of the recent proposal.

"Our pilots are integral to the airline's success and we look forward to working closely with them and their union Balpa to deliver the proposal."
