Export Summary -China buys new-crop U.S. soybeans, Iraq buys rice

March 20 (Reuters) - Snapshot of the global export markets for grains,

oilseeds and edible oils as reported by government and private sources:

SOYBEAN SALE: Private exporters reported the sale of 120,000 tonnes of U.S.

soybeans to China for delivery in the 2014/15 marketing year, which will start

on Sept. 1, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said on Thursday.

RICE SALE: Iraq's state grains buyer has purchased a total 90,000 tonnes of

rice to be sourced from Argentina and Uruguay in an international tender to buy

at least 30,000 tonnes which closed this week, European traders said on

Thursday.

FAILED CORN, SOYBEAN TENDER: The Taiwan Sugar Corp. has rejected all offers

ADVERTISEMENT

and made no purchase in a tender to buy 20,000 tonnes of U.S.-origin corn and

15,000 tonnes of U.S.-origin soybeans, European traders said on Thursday.

WHEAT TENDER: Bangladesh's state grains buyer has issued an international

tender to purchase and import 50,000 tonnes of wheat, European traders said.

Tender closing date is Apr. 3, traders said.

SOYOIL, SUNOIL TENDER: Egyptian commodity purchasing enterprise Meditrade is

seeking 30,000 tonnes of sunflower oil and 15,000 tonnes of soybean oil in a

tender, a Cairo-based trader said. The closing date for the tender is March 26.

SUNOIL TENDER: Egypt's state-owned Food Industries Holding Company (FIHC) is

seeking 40,000 tonnes of sunflower oil in an international tender, a Cairo-based

trader said. The deadline for bids is March 27, the trader said.

WHEAT EXPORT TENDER: India's state-run PEC Ltd (SES: IX2.SI - news) has floated two tenders to

export 65,000 tonnes of wheat from Krishnapatnam and Visakhapatnam ports on the

east coast.

WHEAT EXPORT TENDER: India's state-run trader MMTC (BSE: MMTC.BO - news) has offered

35,000 tonnes of wheat for exports from the Pipavav port on the country's west

coast, the company said in a statement.

PENDING TENDERS:

SOYOIL TENDER: Bangladesh's state purchasing agency Trading Corporation of

Bangladesh has issued an international tender to purchase 2,000 tonnes of

refined soyoil, traders said. Tender deadline is March 19.

DURUM TENDER: Algeria's state grains agency issued on Tuesday a tender to

buy 50,000 tonnes of optional-origin durum wheat for shipment between April 1

and 15, European traders said. The deadline for bids is on March 20, they said.

WHEAT TENDER: A Libyan state-backed buyer in Benghazi is tendering to

purchase 50,000 tonnes of milling wheat for April shipment, European traders

said. Tender deadline is March 23.

BARLEY TENDER: Jordan's Ministry of Trade and Industry issued a new

international tender to buy 100,000 tonnes of feed barley, a source at the

ministry said on Thursday. The barley is for shipment dates including June 1-15,

July 1-15 and July 1-31, the source said. The closing date for the tender is

March 26.

SUNOIL TENDER: Iraq issued a tender on Tuesday to purchase a minimum of

10,000 tonnes of sunflower oil, the trade ministry said in a statement. Tender

deadline is March 23 and offers must remain valid until March 27. The oil can be

sourced from any origin apart from China, the statement said.

TOP STORIES:

* China bought its first U.S. corn in more than two months last week, the

U.S. Agriculture Department said Thursday, despite an unresolved dispute over a

biotech variety that has not been approved for import by the country.

* The grounding of a ship in Argentina's main port of Rosario has now held

up about 90 grains cargo vessels, but the manager of the local port chamber said

on Thursday the ship could be freed within hours.

* Thick ice on Eastern Canada waterways will hamper efforts to clear a

massive crop backlog, with Port of Thunder Bay, Ontario, likely to open at least

a week later than usual this spring, its chief executive said on Thursday.

* Ukraine's coming corn crop could in the worst case drop by a third to 20

million tonnes as the current crisis prompts banks to reassess risk, making it

* A leading Chinese soy buyer is trying to resell cargoes set to be exported

from South America in April and May as bird flu outbreaks reduce demand, hoping

that the United States will take the shipments, said an executive at the firm.

* Chinese customs has confirmed that a nationwide crackdown on smuggling of

agricultural products will include all major crops that the country produces,

the official Xinhua news agency reported late on Wednesday.

* Leading container shipping lines said they will raise Asia-U.S. freight

rates by $300 per 40-foot container (FEU) from April 15 instead of May 1, after

rates declined in February and early March.

* Analyst Strategie Grains on Thursday raised sharply its outlook for

European Union soft wheat exports in 2013/14 to reflect strong shipments from

Romania, Germany and Poland.
