Five S.F. Bay refineries say operations unaffected by quake

Aug 24 (Reuters) - The five crude oil refineries in the San Francisco Bay area said their operations were unaffected by a 6.0 magnitude earthquake that shook the region early on Sunday morning.

Valero Energy Corp's 132,000 barrel per day (bpd) Benicia, California refinery was closest to the quake at 27.4 miles (44 kilometers).

"I have not heard anything about any operational impacts at Benicia due to the earthquake," said Valero spokesman Bill Day.

The largest refinery in the Bay area, Chevron Corp's 245,271 bpd refinery in Richmond, California continued in production despite the temblor, which struck at 3:20 a.m. local time (1020 GMT).

Operations at Tesoro Corp's 166,000 bpd Golden Eagle Refinery in Martinez, California were normal, said spokeswoman Elizabeth Watters.

"There are no injuries or impacts to our ability to meet supply commitments," Watters said.

Royal Dutch Shell Plc (Xetra: R6C1.DE - news) 's 156,400 bpd Martinez refinery and Phillips 66 (NYSE: PSX - news) 's 120,200 bpd Rodeo, California plant continued operating normally, company representatives said. (Reporting by Erwin Seba; Editing by Eric Walsh)
