UPDATE 1-Meggitt shares rise after report of possible bid

(Corrects spelling of company name)

LONDON, July 16 (Reuters) - Shares (Frankfurt: DI6.F - news) of Meggitt jumped more than 9 percent on Wednesday to their highest in three weeks after a UK press report said the aircraft parts supplier could be a bid target.

The Daily Mail newspaper cited trader speculation that U.S. company United Technologies (Xetra: 852759 - news) could be a possible bidder for the group.

Meggitt (Other OTC: MEGGF - news) declined to comment, while a spokeswoman for United Technologies could not be reached for comment.

Shares of Meggitt were up 9.1 percent at 534.50 pence ($9.20) at 0825 GMT. The aerospace industry is currently toasting its annual air show at Farnborough. ($1 = 0.5835 British Pounds) (Reporting By Francesco Canepa; Editing by Lionel Laurent, editing by William Hardy)
