Microsoft Boss Nadella Nets $84.3m Package
Microsoft (NasdaqGS: MSFT - news) has awarded its new chief executive a pay package worth $84.3m (£52.2m), it has emerged.
Satya Nadella got a salary for the fiscal year ending 30 June of $918,917 (£569,000) and a $3.6m (£2.2m) bonus, according to a regulatory filing.
It was long-term stock awards of $79.8m (£49.4m) that made up the balance - payments that will vest over several years.
Microsoft had previously announced a $13.5m (£8.4m) one-time retention award he received before his promotion to CEO in February.
The majority of his stock awards is linked to the long-term performance of Microsoft's share price up to 2019.
The stock is currently 17% higher over the year to date.
Mr Nadella made headlines earlier this month when he was forced to apologise for remarks he made at a women-in-computing conference.
He suggested that women do not need to ask for pay rises and should just trust that the system will pay them what they are worth.
He insisted he was merely repeating advice he had been given in his own career, but later released a company-wide memo that all Microsoft staff would receive expanded training on how to foster an inclusive culture.
