No time set for CDU restart at BP Whiting refinery -sources

(Adds BP no comment, details)

HOUSTON, Jan 23 (Reuters) - There has been no time set for restarting a 90,000-barrel-per-day (bpd) crude distillation unit at BP Plc's 413,500-bpd refinery in Whiting, Indiana, which was shut a day earlier, sources familiar with plant operations said on Friday.

The unit was closed for unplanned repairs late Thursday, the sources said. Energy industry intelligence service Genscape first reported the shutdown.

A BP representative declined to discuss operations at the Whiting refinery.

BP was trying to determine the cause of the shutdown of the CDU, one of three units at the refinery that does the initial refining of crude oil and provides feedstocks for all other production units, the sources said.

The crude unit that was shut, called Pipestill 11C, was knocked out of production on Jan. 8 by extremely cold weather and was restarted on Jan. 13..

A 240,000-bpd CDU and a 75,000-bpd CDU continue to be in production at the Whiting refinery on Friday, the sources said.
