NORWAY GAS-Flows rise on higher demand in continental Europe
* Norway's pipeline gas exports total 251 mcm/day
* Flows to Germany, Belgium rise, fall to Britain
OSLO, Sept 18 (Reuters) - Norway's pipeline gas exports to Germany and
Belgium rose on Thursday from the previous day average, data from gas system
operator Gassco showed.
This was partly offset by lower supplies to Britain. Flows through the
Langeled pipeline dropped by 12 million cubic metres (mcm) per day to 20
mcm/day.
"Langeled flows dropped to the levels observed last week as a result of gas
being rerouted to the SEGAL receiving terminal at St Fergus," said Anette
Einarsen, an analyst at Thomson Reuters Point Carbon.
"In addition, customers in continental Europe were taking more gas from
Norway," she added.
Norway is the second-biggest gas supplier to Europe after Russia.
Russia's Energy Minister Alexander Novak denied on Thursday that Moscow
could cut gas exports to Europe to prevent re-export of supplies to Ukraine,
after several Eastern European countries, including Poland, complained about
lower deliveries.
The following table shows Norwegian pipeline gas flows, measured in million
cubic metres/day, compared with the previous session's average:
Destination Real time Pvs session Change
average (mcm)
Britain 47 54 -7
Germany & Netherlands 130 114 16
France 31 32 -1
Belgium 43 38 5
Total 251 238 13
NOTE: Pipeline gas export figures are based on gas fed into the system at a
certain time and calculated as a daily average. Levels can vary throughout the
day as producers adjust the amount of gas they export, according to changing
nominations, or orders, from customers.
