SavATree Community Service Project at the Henry Whitfield State Museum
GUILFORD, CT--(Marketwired - Jul 23, 2014) - Tree and shrub care company SavATree selected the Henry Whitfield State Museum in Guilford, Connecticut as the site of its 2014 Volunteer Day. On Wednesday, July 16, 2014, over twenty-five members of their management team from across the country and staff from their local office in Old Saybrook came together and utilized their skills to help care for the National Historic Landmark property. SavATree's annual Volunteer Day has previously been held at such notable landmarks as Ground Zero in New York City, Statue of Liberty National Monument, Minute Man National Historic Park in Concord, Massachusetts and Princeton University in New Jersey.
The team focused their efforts on pruning and cabling to reduce potential hazards and to improve the health, structure and shape of a variety of trees. Additional rejuvenation pruning was performed on lilac hedges and along the new Whitfield Spur of the New England Trail.

The Henry Whitfield State Museum, built in 1639, is Connecticut's oldest house, New England's oldest stone house and a National Historic Landmark. In 2014, it is celebrating its 375th Anniversary. It is open May 1 to December 14, Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm. The last tickets are sold at 4 pm each day. Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and college students, $5.00 for youth ages 6 to 17 and free to children under 6. School and group tours are available year round by appointment.
