Shell Deer Park gasoline unit shut up to 6 wks for repairs -sources

HOUSTON, April 19 (Reuters) - The 70,000 barrel-per-day (bpd) gasoline-producing fluidic catalytic cracking unit at Royal Dutch Shell Plc (Xetra: A0ET6Q - news) 's 316,600 bpd joint-venture refinery in Deer Park, Texas, could be shut for up to six weeks of repairs, sources familiar with plant operations said on Tuesday.

The FCCU was shut to due a failure of the unit's expander, which takes heat from the catalyst recovery process and uses it to power the FCCU.

A Shell (LSE: RDSB.L - news) spokesman said on Monday a process unit was shut at the refinery but declined to discuss the specific unit.

The Deer Park refinery is a 50-50 joint venture between Shell and Mexico's national oil company, Petroleos Mexicanos . (Reporting by Erwin Seba; Editing by Bill Trott)
