Starlight Children's Foundation Supports More Than 500 Pediatric Facilities Through Its Innovative Starlight Wish List Platform

Donors Give More Than $300,000 in Wish List Items to Support More Than 500 Facilities Collectively Serving 24 Million Pediatric Patients Every Year

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - August 06, 2014) - Starlight Children's Foundation, a leading global charity that partners with experts to improve the life and health of kids and families around the world, announced today that more than 500 pediatric facilities are registered on its innovative Starlight Wish List platform. These facilities collectively serve as many as 24 million children each year in all 50 U.S. states and Puerto Rico.

"We are overjoyed by the enthusiastic response of partner facilities, individual donors and corporations to the Starlight Wish List program," said Jacqueline Hart-Ibrahim, Global CEO of Starlight Children's Foundation. "Starlight Wish Lists are a virtual philanthropic ecosystem connecting donors with hundreds of facilities to support the critical unmet needs of millions of kids and families directly at the point-of-care."

"The Starlight Wish List program is so much more than just toys and games," says Tanya Ybarra, M.S., C.C.L.S., a child life specialist at California Hospital Medical Center in Los Angeles. "Where you see a can of Play-Doh, I see a tool to help my pediatric patients understand how cancer cells form a tumor, and how we treat it to help them get better."

Launched in beta one year ago, the Starlight Wish List program is the world's first online giving marketplace that transforms the way individual philanthropists and corporations improve the point-of-care experience for pediatric patients. Partner hospitals, clinics, respite houses, hospices and camps can publish a customized Wish List of critical unmet needs on Starlight.org requesting Starlight's proprietary programs or other items that will improve the life and health of the kids and families they serve.

Individual donors can then search by geographic location, facility name or specialty served, and simply point, click and ship items directly to their facility of choice, making it easy and possible to donate to any registered facility around the country. All Starlight Wish List donations are timely, transparent and tangible with 100% of each donation directly funding items specifically requested by the facility. Donors receive a tax receipt for their entire contribution.

Additionally, corporations can make large quantity product donations directly to facilities registered on the platform. Since the program beta launched in July 2013, individuals and corporations have donated more than $300,000 in support of pediatric patients and their families. Currently, more than $8.2 million of requested products and Starlight programs await donation on the Wish Lists.

Starlight Wish Lists, powered by Magento Enterprise and Drupal, provide a seamless interface for users. Web design and mobile eCommerce design and development agency Guidance generously provided a $200,000 service grant towards the development of this proprietary Starlight platform.
