STOCKS NEWS EUROPE-SAP drops on innovation chief exit

Shares in SAP (NYSE: SAP - news) fall 2.5 percent, the second-biggest decliners in a 1.4 percent weaker German blue-chip DAX index, as the business software maker's innovation chief unexpectedly steps down.

Vishal Sikka, a key figure in developing SAP's flagship product Hana, was a protege of company co-founder Hasso Platner and considered a future candidate to become chief executive.

"At first sight this looks like bad news," says Ulrich Trabert, an analyst at German broker Metzler. "Still there are plenty of good SAP managers in second-line to fill the vacuum he leaves behind."

SAP shares are down almost 10 percent so far this year, trailing the sector index which has lost 6.5 percent.
