STOCKS NEWS EUROPE-Thales rises on Qatar contract report

Shares in Thales (Paris: FR0000121329 - news) rise 3 percent after latribune.fr news website reports that Qatar is interested in buying three frigates built by DCNS and armed with MBDA missiles in a deal worth around 2.5 billion euros.

"We weren't expecting that sort of contract. It would be good news if it's confirmed," a Paris-based trader says.

Latribune.fr adds that Thales is also proposing to supply ground infrastructure for satellite communications as part of a 200 million euro contract.

Thales and DCNS decline to comment.

Seen by a Reuters reporter in Doha and asked the reason for his trip, Thales (Dusseldorf: CSF.DU - news) Chief Executive Jean-Bernard Levy replies: "For my holidays".
