    The FTSE Small Caps index gains 0.2 percent to outperform the blue chips, up 0.1 percent, and the mid-caps, which are flat.

    Promethean World (LSE: PRW.L - news) sheds 17.4 percent in volume of over twice its 90-day average, after the education technology company reports a fall in revenue of 29.6 percent for the year and a loss of 5.5 million pounds ($8.32 million).

    "As higher margin software sales impact and assuming hardware sales stabilise this should give some FY14E profit growth," Investec (LSE: INVP.L - news) says in a note, reiterating its 'hold' rating on the stock.

    "However it is early days in the turn around and the company needs to prove it can deliver its top line projections."

    WANdisco (Other OTC: WANSF - news) gains 1.2 percent after launching its flagship 'Big Data' product.

    "WANdisco launches its flagship Big Data Non-Stop NameNode product. The debut is c12months ahead of the original schedule and completes the operational 'pivot' from its IPO (June 2012) single product outfit to being a platform company with a unique patent approved data replication technology," Panmure Gordon says in a note, raising its target price on the stock to 1015p and reiterating its "buy" rating.

    "The debut rounds out a heady pace of newsflow which has seen WANdisco make those rock star engineering and sales hires, build an invaluable partner ecosystem... and more recently debut products."
