STOCKS NEWS EUROPE-UK small caps dip but stay ahead of AIM shares

The FTSE small cap index fall 0.4 percent, in line with the blue chips and outperforming the mid-caps and junior-listed AIM shares, down 0.8 percent and 1.1 percent respectively.

Publishing group Future Plc (Other OTC: FRNWF - news) falls 25 percent after it warns that its full-year adjusted core profit would be "significantly below" market expectations and lower than last year's level.

"The improved trading seen in the Autumn then slowed towards Christmas and has not returned. We see little prospect for any PBT this year," analysts at Peel Hunt write in a note. Their rating on the stock is under review.

"Today's warning highlights, perhaps for the last time, that the transformation at Future should not be undertaken in the public markets."
