    The FTSE Small Caps Index closes 0.6 percent higher, outpacing the blue-chip FTSE 100 (FTSE: ^FTSE - news) and the FTSE mid-cap index, which fall 0.4 and 0.3 percent respectively.

    Northgate (LSE: NTG.L - news) climbs 6.4 percent after the company, which runs a commercial vehicle hire business, completes a corporate refinancing deal.

    Peel Hunt writes in a note that the new refinancing deal represents a "comprehensive" package which should cut the company's interest payments, and keeps a "buy" rating on the stock.

    AdEPT Telecom rises 4.9 percent after the telecoms group says it expects its underlying EBITDA (earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation) to be ahead of market expectations, leading Northland Capital to increase its price target on the stock to 93 pence from 85 pence. Northland Capital (OTC BB: CGHC - news) rates AdEPT Telecom as a "buy".
