STOCKS NEWS EUROPE-UK small caps close down 0.4 pct

The FTSE Small Cap index closes 0.4 percent lower, while junior-listed AIM shares end 0.3 percent down/up, against a 0.1 percent stronger blue chip index.

European publishing company Mecom Group (LSE: MEC.L - news) jumps 22.3 percent after saying estimated full-year core earnings came in well above its forecast and a decline in advertising revenue had stabilised in the Netherlands and Denmark in the third quarter.

Quindell (LSE: QPP.L - news) gains 3.4 percent after a strong trading update which prompts analysts at Canaccord Genuity (Other OTC: CCORF - news) to raises the target price for the stock to 45 pence from 41 pence and reiterate a "buy" rating.
