UK small caps finish 0.6 percent higher, lagging gains of 1.4 percent on the mid-caps and 1.2 percent on the blue chips.
Restaurant group Prezzo gains 3.6 percent after reporting a 17 percent rise in 2012 revenue and an 11 percent increase in adjusted pre-tax profit, which enabled it to hike dividends.
"Results came in ahead of expectations, driven by strong post-Olympics trading," Nick Batram, analyst at Peel Hunt, says in a note, raising his target price on the stock to 98 pence from 90 pence.
"With a solid balance sheet and growing confidence in Chimichanga, we expect Prezzo to continue to deliver impressive growth."
Halfords rises 5.4 percent after the bicycles-to-car-parts group maintains its profit guidance, reaassuring investors.
"This update confirms that the UK retail profitability has stabilised," Cantor analyst Kate Calvert writes in a research note, keeping a "buy" rating on the stock.
