UK GAS-Mild weather and fresh LNG on horizon weigh on prices

March 24 (Reuters) - British gas prices fell on Friday as mild temperatures dampened demand and as a steady stream of scheduled liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker arrivals weighed on sentiment. * British day-ahead gas price fell by 0.70 pence to 39.05 pence per therm at 0858 GMT. * Within-day contract declined by 0.60 pence to 39 p/therm. * Britain's gas system was oversupplied by 3.1 million cubic metres/day, with demand estimated at 257.2 mcm and daily supply forecast at 260.3 mcm-National Grid (LSE: NG.L - news) . * Traders said a combination of mild weather in Britain and across Europe weighed on demand, while an expected influx of LNG tankers boosted supplies. * "The return of the milder temperatures in UK combined with continued warmer temperatures on the continent and frequent LNG deliveries has continued to weigh on the UK spot and prompt prices," said Nick Campbell, risk manager at Inspired Energy (LSE: INSE.L - news) Plc. * "Further out the rebounding sterling and weaker oil following another weekly build in U.S. crude stocks has driven the near curve lower," he added. * Seasonal gas contracts declined; summer 2017 was down by 0.35 pence at 39.1 p/therm, with winter 2017 dealing 0.25 pence lower at 45.35 p/therm. * Shipping intelligence firm Kpler counted five LNG tankers likely due to arrive at Britain's South Hook import terminal from early- to mid-April, including the Rasheeda, Al Ghariya, Al Sheehaniya, Al Karaana and Shagra. * South Hook is also due to receive the Al Mafyar tanker on March 28, according to port authority data. * April gas contract down by 0.60 pence to 39.10 p/therm. * Day-ahead gas price at the Dutch TTF hub down by 0.10 euro at 15.10 euros per megawatt hour. * Benchmark Dec-17 EU carbon contract down by 0.07 euro to 4.91 euros per tonne. * Thomson Reuters (Dusseldorf: TOC.DU - news) analyst view: http://emea1.apps.cp.extranet.thomsonreuters.biz/cms/?pageid=united-kingdom-gas (Reporting By Oleg Vukmanovic in Milan; Editing by Edmund Blair)
