UK GAS-Prices fall on higher supply from Norway

* System oversupplied by around 7 mcm/day

* Emden gas rerouted to Langeled, pushing up supplies

LONDON, Aug 24 (Reuters) - Prompt natural gas prices in Britain fell on Monday morning due to strong flows from Norway through the Langeled pipeline.

Prices for day-ahead delivery dropped 0.75 pence to 37.00 p/therm at 0730 GMT, while gas for within-day delivery was 0.60 pence lower at 37.50 p/therm.

"We've got quite strong supply flows through Langeled which is putting pressure on prices, as well as higher-than-normal LNG (liquefied natural gas) supply and exports are still up. All that has reduced demand," a UK gas trader said.

Britain's gas system was oversupplied on Monday. Demand was forecast at 223.5 million cubic metres (mcm) while flows were expected to be 230.7 mcm/day, according to National Grid (LSE: NG.L - news) data.

Flows from Norway via Langeled have rise to 60 mcm/day compared to 19 mcm on Friday. This is because gas has been redirected from the Emden receiving terminal in Germany due to annual maintenance being carried out on the Europipe metering station and Norsea gas terminal.

"Normally during Emden maintenance, (some) gas is re-routed to other Continental (Swiss: CONT.SW - news) lines. But since Continental lines are running close to capacity this summer all gas from Emden is rerouted via Langeled to the UK," said Thomson Reuters Point Carbon analysts.

Exports to continental Europe from Britain were largely unchanged from Friday at 45 mcm/day. The strong rate of exports is being driven by a record high send-out of liquefied natural gas for August and high Norwegian supply.

Further along the curve, gas for September delivery was down 0.60 pence at 38.20 p/therm.

Prices were also lower on the Dutch TTF gas market, with gas for September down 0.50 euros at 18.40 euros per megawatt hour.

In Europe's carbon market, benchmark EU Allowances (EUA) were 0.07 euros lower to 8.14 euros a tonne. (Reporting by Nina Chestney; editing by David Clarke)
