UK GAS-Prices fall on increased LNG supply

* LNG supply is healthy for coming week

* Prices shrug off rise in consumption as temperatures fall

May 14 (Reuters) - British wholesale gas prices fell on Thursday morning due to increased supply from liquefied natural gas tankers, shrugging off higher consumption due to cooler temperatures.

Gas for immediate delivery was down 0.60 pence at 44.60 pence per therm at 0721 GMT, while gas for next-day delivery fell by 0.85 pence to 44.30 pence per therm.

Britain's gas demand is forecast to be 186.9 million cubic metres on Thursday, while supply is estimated at 196.7 mcm/day, meaning the system is 10.2 mcm oversupplied, National Grid (LSE: NG.L - news) data showed.

"A long system is putting pressure on prices, even though we are about 5 degrees (Celsius) lower than yesterday. LNG (liquefied natural gas) supply is certainly healthy for the coming week," a gas trader said.

Five LNG cargoes are either docked or heading to Britain over the next week.

Meanwhile, exports to continental Europe are expected to be lower on Thursday as gas consumption in Britain has increases due to cooler temperatures.

Weather forecasts for this summer in Europe are mixed. Weather Services International sees May to July cooler than normal in Britain and warmer conditions in Nordic countries.

Other forecasts, however, predict warmer temperatures for nearly all of Europe.

"As the transition into summer begins, the big questions are how much LNG will come to Europe, and how much gas will be injected into storage," said Trevor Sikorski at Energy Aspects.

"We expect some 2.5 billion cubic metres (bcm) of additional LNG will come to Europe over the summer and injections over Q2 2015 and Q3 2015 will amount to 46 bcm (leaving end of September levels around 73 bcm)," he added.

On Thursday, imports from Belgium through the BBL pipeline remained at zero.

"BBL flows should only increase from May 19 when the UK market becomes particularly tight following a drop in (Norwegian) Langeled flows owing to the Ormen Lange (field) maintenance," Thomson Reuters Point Carbon analysts said.

In the Netherlands, the June gas price at the TTF hub was down 0.25 euros at 20.35 euros/megawatt-hour.

The benchmark European Union carbon price was trading 0.01 euro higher at 7.69 euros per tonne. (Reporting by Nina Chestney; editing by Jason Neely)
