UK GAS-Prices rise on lower Norwegian supply, heavy exports to Belgium

* Within-day price up 2.34 percent

* UK exports more to Belgium, Norwegian supply down

* Barrow terminal outage ends - Centrica (LSE: CNA.L - news)

April 8 (Reuters) - British natural gas prices rose on Wednesday due to an undersupplied network as Norwegian deliveries and send-out from a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal fell.

Prices for within-day delivery were at 48.20 pence per therm at 0830 GMT, up 2.34 percent or 1.1 pence since their last settlement.

Prices for delivery on Thursday were up 1.46 percent or 0.7 pence at 48.60 pence per therm.

Imports from Norway via the main Langeled pipeline fell to around 53 million cubic metres/day (mcm) from about 70 mcm in the previous session, flow data from National Grid (LSE: NG.L - news) showed.

Norway's Langeled flows are nominated at an even lower level of 48 mcm for the day.

British gas exports to Belgium rose significantly to 18 mcm, the highest since mid-March, due to the sharp decline in British gas prices on Tuesday, analysts at Thomson Reuters Point Carbon said.

"This should be sufficient to prevent the NBP (National Balancing Point, or British gas market) falling sharply again today despite consumption continuing to decline," the analysts wrote.

Gas flows into Britain's Barrow terminal resumed in the early hours of Wednesday morning after falling close to zero the previous day, operator Centrica said in a market message.

The gas network opened the session slightly short. But as physical flows rose, supply and demand regained balance, with daily demand estimated at 205.3 mcm and actual supply at 205.8 mcm, National Grid data showed.

Daily flows were forecast at 213.1 mcm, signalling the market should be amply supplied overall.

"Prompt prices have opened higher this morning despite comfortable system dynamics, taking direction from a tick up in contracts further out," Marcel Boonaert, head gas trader at Wingas UK, said.

Further along the curve, gas for delivery in winter 2015 rose by 0.36 pence to 51.35 pence per therm.

In the Netherlands, the day-ahead gas price at the TTF hub was 0.30 euro higher at 22.40 euros per megawatt-hour (MWh).

The benchmark European Union carbon price dipped 0.03 euro to 7.17 euros a tonne on ICE Futures Europe. (Reporting by Oleg Vukmanovic in Milan; Editing by Dale Hudson)
