UK GAS-Prompt natural gas prices steady as temperatures rise

* Gas system almost balanced

* Wednesday's demand 9 pct lower than seasonal norm

LONDON, April 15 (Reuters) - Prompt natural gas prices in Britain were little changed on Wednesday morning as warm weather dented demand leaving the market almost balanced.

Prices for delivery on Thursday were down 0.15 pence at 47.35 pence per therm at 0840 GMT. Prices for within day delivery were 47.20 pence per therm, up 0.45 pence since their last settlement in a thinly traded market.

With supply flows at about 197.5 million cubic metres (mcm) per day on Wednesday and demand expected to be about 198.5 mcm, the system was almost balanced, National Grid (LSE: NG.L - news) data showed.

Wednesday's demand was around 9 percent below the seasonal norm of 219 mcm, the data showed.

Traders said demand for gas for heating was weak due to warmer than usual temperatures in the country.

Britain's Met Office forecast temperatures could reach 25 degrees on Wednesday, making it the hottest day of the year so far and more than double average temperatures for April of around 11 degrees.

Further along the curve, gas for delivery in May was 0.38 pence higher at 48.55 pence per therm.Traders said the May contract rebounded slightly after a fall in prices on Tuesday was overdone following the Dutch government's announcement it would not stop full production at the country's Groningen gas field.

Gas for delivery in Winter 15 was 0.10p pence lower at 50.80 pence per therm.

In the Netherlands, the day-ahead gas price at the TTF hub was 0.17 euros higher at 22.27 euros per megawatt-hour (MWh).

The benchmark European Union carbon price dipped 2 cents to 6.82 euros a tonne on ICE Futures Europe. (Reporting By Susanna Twidale Editing by Jeremy Gaunt)
