UK GAS-Prompt prices fall on increased Norwegian imports

* Uk gas market oversupplied by 12.3 mcm

* Gas demand 24 pct up on seasonal norm

LONDON, July 27 (Reuters) - British spot gas prices fell on Monday morning as higher imports from Norway left the system oversupplied.

Prices for within-day delivery were trading at 42.10 pence per therm at 0810 GMT, down 0.90 pence since their last settlement..

With supply at 199.5 million cubic metres (mcm) per day on Monday and demand expected to be about 187.2 mcm, the system was 12.3 mcm oversupplied, National Grid (LSE: NG.L - news) data showed.

Monday's demand was 24 percent above the season norm of 151 mcm, largely due to cooler than usual temperatures and a dip in wind power output.

However the increased demand was met by higher supplies from Norway which increased on Monday following the end of an outage at the Troll gas field over the weekend.

Norwegian imports via the Langeled pipeline were around 50 million cubic metres (mcm) on Monday, National Grid data showed, up from levels around 20-25 mcm over the weekend.

Troll is Norway's biggest gas field while Langeled is Britain's main sub-sea gas import route.

Day-ahead prices edged up 0.15 pence to 42.10 pence per therm as cooler weather forecasts and a forecast drop in output from wind farms led to expectations of higher gas demand.

Peak wind generation was forecast at 3.8 gigawatts (GW) on Monday and expected to drop to 3 GW on Tuesday, National Grid data showed.

Britain's Met Office forecast temperatures are likely to average around 16 degrees Celsius on Tuesday compared with an average July temperatures of around 19 degrees.

Gas prices further along the curve were stable, with the Winter 2015 contract up 0.02 pence at 46.05 pence per therm.

In the Netherlands, the day-ahead gas price at the TTF hub was 0.05 euros higher at 20.50 euros per megawatt-hour (MWh).

The benchmark European Union carbon price rose 0.04 euros to 8.06 euros per tonne on ICE Futures Europe. (Reporting By Susanna Twidale, editing by William Hardy)
