Some UK gilt dealers want mid-April linker syndication - DMO
LONDON, March 24 (Reuters) - Some British government bond dealers want the country's debt agency to move an auction of index-linked bonds scheduled for April 16 in order to sell a much larger quantity of inflation-proof debt via a syndication that week.
The UK Debt Management Office said in minutes of a regular consultation with dealers that some had requested a syndication of a new 30-year index-linked bond to take place in the week of April 16, rather than later in the quarter.
April 16 marks the day that an index-linked gilt maturing in 2020 falls out of a basket of bonds which many funds track, creating high extra demand for linkers, the DMO said.
Some dealers also wanted an extra syndication for a long-dated conventional bond in June, the DMO added. (Reporting by David Milliken, editing by Andy Bruce)
