US mid-morning: Divergent view points from Fed Presidents

LONDON (ShareCast) - -President SF Fed says need to keep monetary throttle wide open. -President Philadelphia Fed says does not support greater guidance from FOMC. -President Philadelphia Fed argues against asking for too much accommodation. -Worries over attacks against Israeli diplomats in New Delhi. Dow Jones Industrial: -0.10% Nasdaq Comp.: -0.25% S&P 500 (SNP: ^GSPC - news) : -0.23% The main US equity benchmarks are still trading slightly down. That following some mixed economic data out before the opening and, more specifically, after weaker than expected data on retail sales. Of note, sharp falls in shares of Avon (BSE: AVONCORP.BO - news) , following the release of its results. On a more positive note, aircraft manufacturer Boeing (NYSE: BA - news) has signed a record $22.4bn order with Indonesian budget carrier PT Lion Mentari Airlines at the Singapore Air Show. MACROECONOMY Retail sales grew by 0.4% month-on-month in January (Consensus: 0.8%). Excluding automobiles retail sales grew 0.7% month-on-month (Consensus: 0.5%). However, downwards revisions to the previous month´s data seem to make for a clearly lower than expected reading. Import prices rose by 0.3% month-on-month during January, as expected, although in on year terms they came in a tenth of a percentage point lower than expected. The NFIB small business confidence survey rose to 93.9 points in January from 93.8 the month before. Business inventories rose at a month-on-month rate of 0.4% in December (Consensus: 0.5%). OTHER MARKETS Front month West Texas crude futures are now rising slightly, by 0.30%, to the $101.21/barrel mark on NYMEX. 10 year US Treasuries are now moving up buy 10/32 dollars, with yields at 1.94%.
