Veidekke ASA: To build unique nursing home in Lier

Veidekke Entreprenør has signed a contract with Lier municipality to build a nursing home with 61 beds. The new Frognerhagen nursing home will be built with emphasis on well-being and the environment as a BREEAM-classified passive house. The value of the contract is NOK 206 million excluding VAT.

The new nursing home will be next to Lier Hospital in Lier municipality in Buskerud county. The goal is to create a model project in the municipality`s care for the elderly. In the planning and design of the nursing home, emphasis has been on the residents` special needs and visual and physical proximity to sheltered gardens, nature and walkways. This is particularly reflected in the outdoor areas (total site area 15,000 m2). A garden will also be built inside the actual building. The façade will be a combination of wood and zinc, and zinc will also be used for roofing.

The new Frognerhagen nursing home will have a gross floor area of 9,020 m² in three wings with three and four storeys respectively, including an underground floor. Spaces at the new nursing home are made up of 32 institutional spaces, 16 flats with round the clock staffing and a rehabilitation section with 12 spaces. The nursing home will also have a large day-care centre for users with dementia who don`t reside at an institution, and a communal kitchen for the whole municipality.

Architects are Reiulf Ramstad Arkitekter AS from Oslo and Solheim Arkitektur from Trondheim. Project planning is under way and construction will start in September. The building will be ready for occupation in February 2016.
