Walmart Apologises For 'Fat Girl Costumes'

Walmart has apologised for a "Fat Girl Costumes" which described Halloween outfits on its website.

The label sparked an uproar on social media after a customer posted a picture of it on Twitter (Xetra: A1W6XZ - news) .

"Not sure labeling these as 'Fat Girl Costumes' is the best approach. #rude," Kristyn Washburn posted on 21 October.

The retail giant responded to her post, saying: "Comments and suggestions are important to us and help make Walmart even better".

But as of Monday, the phrase was still on the site, prompting Gawker-owned blog Jezebel to run a story.

Walmart dropped the offensive phrase later in the day.

"This never should have been on our site. It is unacceptable, and we apologise," Walmart said in a statement.

The incident was the retailer's latest public relations nightmare.

The company is being sued by actor and comedian Tracy Morgan over the crash that left him seriously injured and killed a fellow comedian.

The lawsuit claims Walmart is responsible for the June pile-up because the driver of one of its tractor-trailers, who allegedly slammed into Morgan (Other OTC: MGHL - news) 's limousine, had not slept in over 24 hours.

Walmart contends that Morgan and his fellow passengers were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
