| | Geest plc, eat wellIn the 1930s, two brothers, John and Leonard van Geest left their native Holland for Great Britain, where they went into the flower bulb business. Gradually a group took shape, branched out and finally moved seriously into the food industry in the 1970s.Today Geest plc provides all kinds of products and foodstuffs for the supermarket sector, not only in Britain but also in Europe. It supplies bread (wholemeal, wholegrain, bran for example), pizzas, soups, meat, ready-meals and fresh fruit and vegetables. Not forgetting salads and fresh flowers. Its selection comprises well over 2000 products. Geest plc has always based its strategy on diversification, acquisitions (such as the Belgian firm Vaco Geel in 1996, and the French concern Cinquième Saison in 1999) and partnerships/joint ventures (notably with Enzafruit Worldwide and Dips & Dressings): It has proved to be a winning combination. |
