Microsoft’s Latest Push into Hardware: Surface Go

On August 2, Microsoft (MSFT) plans to launch its ten-inch Surface Go, which has a starting price of $399—about half that of the Surface Pro’s $799. Unlike the iPad product line, Microsoft’s Surface offerings come with detachable keyboards. The Surface Go commands a slight premium over the 9.7-inch iPad, as it’s made with premium materials. Microsoft (MSFT) generated revenues of $26.8 billion in its fiscal third quarter. The company’s Surface products garnered ~$1.1 billion in revenues, which grew 32.0% year-over-year despite a slowdown in the overall tablet market.
