UPDATE 1-Petroecuador, PetroTal agree to move Peruvian crude through Ecuador

(Updates with details from statement in paragraphs 2-3, context on PetroTal in paragraph 4)

QUITO, May 2 (Reuters) - Ecuador's state-owned oil company Petroecuador said on Thursday that is signed an agreement with PetroTal in Peru to transport Peruvian crude through Ecuador's Block 16 facilities.

PetroTal will pay Petroecuador to move an estimated 100,000 barrels through the Ecuadorean firm's facilities in the Amazonian province of Orellana, Petroecuador said in a statement published on Thursday.

Talks began late last year and were finalized after on-site inspections and meetings were held to determine the plan's technical and legal feasibility, Petroecuador said.

PetroTal operates in Peru's Loreto, Huanuco and Pasco regions. In Loreto, the company produced an average of 18,518 barrels of crude oil per day during the first quarter, a 23% increase from the same period in 2023, according to the company.
