10 Bollywood films sold to OTT platforms for insane amount of money
With the big screen and theatres shut down due to the pandemic, OTT platforms have been the biggest gainers of the year. Now with more films being released on these online streaming platforms, even the biggies of Bollywood have embraced streaming sites like Netflix, Prime Video, Disney + Hotstar and Zee Studios among others.
Here are some of the biggest (and the most expensive) online Bollywood movie releases of the year:
Laxmmi Bomb: This Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani is the official remake of the superhit Tamil movie ‘Muni 2: Kanchana’. The movie was sold to Disney+Hotstar for, hold your breathe, an astounding Rs. 125 crore, making it the biggest online deal in Bollywood.
Bhuj: The Pride of India: Ajay Devgn’s war action movie comes second in line after being sold to Disney+Hotstar for Rs. 110 crore. The film also features Sanjay Dutt, Sonakshi Sinha, Nora Fatehi, Sharad Kelkar and Ammy Virk.
Sadak 2: Making his comeback after 21 years, Mahesh Bhatt’s sequel to the 1991 film has been sold to Disney+Hotstar for Rs. 70 crores. The film stars Sanjay Dutt, Alia Bhatt, Pooja Bhatt and Aditya Roy Kapur.
Gulabo Sitabo: Amazon Prime Video acquired the streaming rights of this Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana movie for Rs. 65 crores.
Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl: Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, this Janhvi Kapoor starrer is releasing straight on Netflix after making a deal worth Rs. 50 crores.
Shakuntala Devi: Human Computer: Vidya Balan stars in this biopic which Amazon Prime Video bought the streaming rights for at Rs. 40 crores. The film also features Sanya Malhotra, and Amit Sadh.
Dil Bechara: Disney+Hotstar bought the streaming rights of the Indian remake of ‘Faults in our Stars’, starring the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput and Sanjana Sanghi, for Rs. 40 crores.
The Big Bull: Abhishek Bachchan and Ileana D’Cruz star in this movie about the rise and fall of a stockbroker, which Disney+Hotstar acquired for Rs. 40 crores.
Khuda Haafiz: Inspired by real incidents, the film features Vidyut Jammwal and Shivaleeka Oberoi in the lead roles. It was sold to Disney+Hotstar for Rs 10 crore.
Lootcase: Kunal Kemmu is back, this time as a protagonist who comes across a suitcase full of case. the film was sold to Disney+Hotstar for a deal worth Rs. 10 crores.
