The style set knows Copenhagen Fashion Week as the most exciting and least pressure-filled Fashion Week of the circuit, which includes New York, London, Milan and Paris. Not only are the Scandinavian brands that show during CPHFW ahead of the curve when it comes to sustainability and work culture, but they often present more realistic and wearable designs for women who enjoy getting dressed for a weekend stroll as much as for a special event.
Plus, you may already know some of the best fashion brands out of Copenhagen: Ganni, for example, has seen major statewide success — as has Saks Potts, the label that made the fur-cuffed coats everyone from Rihanna to Bella Hadid wore back in 2019. Cecilie Bahnsen and Rotate are both big names to make it out of Scandinavia as well.

GANNI
Probably the most widely recognized name to come out of Copenhagen, GANNI is the epitome of Scandinavian style. Infused in every show is a fun that translates to the clothing: A few years ago, it was a concert finale in the rain, and this season, husband-and-wife founders Nicolaj and Ditte Reffstrup kicked off the show with a joy ride. For Spring 2023, GANNI showed everything from mega-wide-leg denim to color-blocked bombers and sheer dresses. Get ready to see a lot of oversized bottoms mixed with fitted tops.

The Garment
Founded by Scandi fashion star Sophia Roe and Charlotte Eskildsen of Designers Remix, The Garment launched quietly in 2020, just prior to the pandemic. Still, the brand’s ‘90s-inspired, timeless and neutral-heavy collections have been a hit due to sharp designs with smart tailoring and even smarter layering. If you’re looking for a pair of trousers to wear with a fringed halter top, a feminine-meets-masculine lace buttondown or a suit jacket that somehow fits better than anything you’ve ever worn, this is the brand for you.
OpéraSPORT
OpéraSPORT is an exploration of the ethereal mixed with — you guessed it — the athletic, and Awa Malina Stelter and Stephanie Gundelach (who are based dually in Copenhagen and Paris) founded it in 2019. OpéraSPORT finds inspiration from the art world, which comes to life for Spring 2023 in the form of feminine dresses torn on the diagonal, modern peplum halter tops and even reflective quilted outerwear — a nod to the active-forward brand tentpole.

Gestuz
Rooted in Scandinavian ease, Gestuz offers simple twists on must-have silhouettes — like a midi dress with contrast-stitching or a mock-neck sweater with simple ruching along the back. Each piece toes the line between minimalist, elegant and edgy. (Even better, it’s one of the more affordable brands to come out of CPHFW.)

AERON
If Copenhagen gets one thing right, it’s knitwear. Newcomer AERON seems to have mastered it during its inaugural CPHFW show with beach-ready knit maxi dresses, oversized suiting and cling-to-the-body separates complete with the brand’s signature A-motif buckles.
Founded in 2012 in Budapest by Eszter Áron, the brand focuses on trend-agnostic pieces made from materials like ultralight biodegradable cupro, organic cotton and FSC-certified EcoVero. It’s also Nanushka’s sister brand, which means you’re probably about to see it everywhere — or at least on everyone that’s chic.

Saks Potts
The brand known for its cult-favorite outerwear that took almost every celebrity by storm has no interest in being a one-hit-wonder. Instead, the brand dabbled in trends that felt less of the moment and more like timeless iterations of pieces, such as a grommet-cut skirt suit, a wide-collared halter top and fringe belts that were also wearable around the neck.

Little Liffner
Scandinavian accessories brand Little Liffner is a street style favorite among editors and influencers, and it’s not hard to see why: Each minimalist-minded bag feels timeless and playful thanks to the sculptural, take-anywhere shapes. Next season, the brand continues its ladylike stream with top-handle and tote styles.

Baum und Pferdgarten
Baum und Pferdgarten isn’t too far behind Ganni in terms of stateside recognition: Founded by Danish design duo Helle Hestehave & Rikke Baumgarten, the brand’s eclectic, quirky offerings outfit you to enjoy all of life’s small joys — day or night. This season, the brand showed ‘80s-inspired color-blocked coats alongside a bright printed skirt suit and more than a few layering tricks.

Stine Goya
Designer Stine Goya is known for her artist collaborations on and off the runway and for the way she marries color and print in a buzzy rather than haphazard way. This season, that tentpole showed up in geometric-printed dresses and separates, pearl-embellished pantsuits and a sheer mesh-topped dress. (I recommend wearing her matching pieces together for a bonus effect of looking put together even when you’re not.)

Holzweiler
Norwegian brand Holzweiler was founded in 2012 by a trio of designers from Oslo — and though it started as a collection of scarves, the brand later launched ready-to-wear items like coats, jackets, sweaters and pants that pushed the brand into the need-to-know territory. This season, the brand used upcycled parachutes to construct many of its gender-fluid pieces. Standouts included a wide-knit vest worn beneath a bomber in stick-of-butter monochrome and a few ruched separates that err on the athletic side.
