‘Detached’, ‘garage’ and ‘bungalow’ are the top three most searched for keywords across the UK when it comes to hunting for a new home.

Property website Zoopla has analysed search data from its keyword property search tool to reveal Brits’ most sought-after features of a future home.

'Detached’ takes the top spot, indicating that Brits value their privacy and yearn for a home that isn’t close to neighbouring properties. The high ranking of ‘garage’ proves that dedicated parking space for cars is still deemed as a top priority, whilst the popularity of ‘bungalow’ proves that the practicality of living all on one level is becoming a common requirement.

Top 10 keyword searches across the UK are as follows:

8. Cottage

10. Rural

It's important to note that the leaderboard changes slightly on a regional level. For example, those in the South West are hoping to snap up a coastal retreat, with ‘sea view’ and ‘cottage’ making the top 10 for the area.

In London, ‘freehold’ is the most searched for term, indicating Londoners have a desire to own the ground their property is housed on outright. And in what is an expensive market for first time buyers, ‘help to buy’ also makes the list in the capital city. Elsewhere,' house boat’ makes the top 10 proving there’s clearly an appetite for those looking to embrace micro living.
