11 uplifting scents to banish winter blues
Winter is on the horizon – temperatures have dropped, the clocks have gone back and our access to daylight is limited – but a new study has identified the top 10 most uplifting scents to help boost your mood.
Given the seasonal changes, it's no surprise that one third of Brits confess to experiencing Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), but as the autumnal nights draw in, new research by Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day has revealed everyday routine changes that can lift your spirits.
Of those who experience SAD, a third (32 per cent) report that cleaning alleviates symptoms, improving their mental wellbeing.
A further 30 per cent find that being outdoors can also lift their spirits, with 16 per cent revealing that using essential oils within their daily routine proves beneficial in countering SAD symptoms.
With 50 per cent of Brits reporting that they find nothing more comforting than the scents in their home, and with over a fifth seeking to bring the fresh scents of the garden indoors, Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day has revealed the most popular uplifting scents ideal for getting rid of those winter blues:
Freshly cut grass (31 per cent)
Lavender (30 per cent)
Lemon (25 per cent)
Rose (21 per cent)
Eucalyptus (18 per cent)
Lemongrass (12 per cent)
Burning Wood (11 per cent)
Ginger (10 per cent)
Ylang Ylang (8 per cent)
Peony (7 per cent)
Basil (6 per cent)
Newly-launched in the UK, Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day's brand new range of multi-sensorial, hardworking cleaning products – from washing-up liquid to multi-surface spray (available at Ocado and Amazon) – comes in four uplifting scents of Basil, Lavender, Peony and Lemon Verbena to create a garden-fresh sensory outdoor experience within the comfort of your home.
