(REUTERS)A 15-year-old schoolboy is the second teenager stabbed to death in north London in just five days.
The victim was attacked in the street during an argument about 5.30pm last night.
Despite efforts of emergency services to save his life, he was pronounced dead at the scene in Holland Walk, Archway.
The teenager’s family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
One male has been arrested on suspicion of affray. Officers remain at the scene.
Police said the public can expect to see an increased presence in the coming hours and days while officers conduct inquiries in Islington.
The killing comes five days after 17-year-old Anas Mezenner was fatally stabbed three miles away in Turnpike Lane. Two boys, aged 16, have been charged with his murder.
There is no suggestion the two homicides are linked, but Scotland Yard are concerned about recent violence despite lockdown.
Nine people have been murdered in London already this year – one more than at the same time in 2020.
A Section 60 order giving police extra stop and search powers was in place for the whole of Islington between 7pm and 7am.
Meanwhile, the family of Alexander Kareem, 20, who was shot dead in a case of mistaken identity in west London seven months ago, appealed for help to catch his killers, saying those with information can “protect them no longer”.
Alexander - whose sister Khafi Kareem is a serving Met police officer - was walking near his family home in Shepherd’s Bush when he was gunned down on June 8, 2020.
Detectives today reissued CCTV of a white Range Rover found burned out on Ascott Avenue, Ealing just 25 minutes after the first call to police.
Nine people, including a 16-year-old boy, have been arrested in connection with the investigation and released. Crimestoppers has offered a £10,000 reward.
Alexander's family spoke of their “immeasurable loss” in a statement, adding: “We are asking you to come forward with any information you may have, we need answers for us to start to heal. The perpetrators are using the silence of the public as protection against the consequences of their hideous and unspeakable crime.
“Please, protect them no longer. Pick up the phone and do the right thing for Alexander, his friends and for us, his family.”
