While it may sound old school, puzzles are one of the best ways to keep busy while spending extra time indoors. Winter is just around the corner, so if you’re still practicing social distancing by staying inside as much as possible right now, you’ll need something fun (and stimulating!) to do after you’ve reorganized your closet for the third time.
Even before the pandemic, puzzles for adults were starting to have a moment, just like the adult coloring book trend. Not only does a puzzle help take your mind off things and keep you occupied, but research suggests puzzles provide a workout for your brain by helping mitigate cognitive disorders caused by aging. Just as the effects from coloring can help you de-stress, some are looking toward puzzles as a way to cope with anxiety.
As we’re now into the ninth month of the pandemic, puzzle sales have drastically increased this year. In April, Gamemaker Ravensburger’s CEO Filip Francke told CNBC that U.S. puzzle sales had seen a 370 percent year over year increase in just two weeks — at that time, 20 puzzles were selling every minute.
Because of this increased popularity for puzzles, there are now innovative companies like Jiggy Puzzles and Piecework coming out with stylish and aesthetically-pleasing puzzles that aren’t your grandma’s jigsaws.
After you’ve watched every new Netflix show and finished organizing every crevice of your space, check out one of the trendy puzzles below to help keep entertained.
